First newborn in nearly 30 years

BBC reports: the Italian town Ostana has welcomed its first newborn in 28 years, bringing the town’s population to 85. Population decline has been an issue for the town since World War II, yet Europe as a whole continues to have low fertility rates below replacement levels.
